The beginning of the development of bonded joint materials dates back to the middle of the seventies. The presumably first professional pavement jointing with high-strength materials in Europe was a wash-in method for natural stone pavings that dates from that time and was applied for a patent in 1979. The initial idea of a “high heel proof” jointing was fulfilled without loss of visual attractiveness of pavement and slabs.

Very soon, the application range was extended to pavement and slabs that had to bear not only pedestrian traffic but also heavy traffic loads. As a result of the change in cleaning methods, the additional requirement of durably scratch and high-pressure water proof jointing materials emerged.

The increasing demand for use of well-walkable and well-trafficable pavement and slabbed surfaces could not be satisfactorily met by the conventional non-bonded way of construction, nor by the “infant” technique of bonded element construction method. Hence, the “Forschungsgesellschaft für Straßen- und Verkehrswesen” (FGSV) (=German Road and Transportation Research Association) in its “Technical Bulletin about Pavement and Slabbed Surfaces” (M FP 1) and its “ZTV Pflaster-StB 06” (=Additional Terms of Contract for Pavings) spoke out against slabbed construction for trafficable surfaces. A surface of elements (paving blocks and slabs) cannot be designed durably stable for the requirements of dynamic traffic loads by only the mortar jointing – be it ever so high-grade. To this end, an efficient system of bedding and jointing mortars is needed.

The application of bonded bedding and jointing materials by STEIN TEC® creates highly resilient, visually appealing pavements and slabbed surfaces.

Bedding and jointing mortars for pavements and slabbed surfaces must fulfill completely different requirements. At a pavement, compression strengths within the joint system withstand and compensate the vast part of the impacting forces. At a slabbed surface, rather the adherence linkage between the slabs underneath and the bedding is required. This matter of fact was perceived by STEIN TEC® and consistently implemented in the characteristics of the provided bedding and jointing mortars for these requirements. By the continuous development of the standard products and the extension of the range of products for different force requirements, STEIN TEC® is able to provide the suitable bedding and jointing mortar anytime.

Applying STEIN TEC® products, the user obtains highly attractive, force-adapted, stable and long-time durable pavements and slabbed surfaces.

Another specialty by STEIN TEC® are quickly and highly resilient plaster systems.
